Project Overview:
Planby is working with department stores and shopping malls to automate and internalize the design process of brand stores. Now department stores and malls can instantly visualize how certain brand stores would look if they were located at a certain place. They can also use our solution to design creative pop-up stores that are consistent with the brand design tone & manner, accelerating the concept design and planning process.
Key highlights:
•
Short-cutting the long and tedious process of repetitive design and design communication amongst the brand, the interior design company and the department store.•
Planby developed an AI interior design model that is capable of generating images of alternate brand retail store designs while meeting the physical restraints of the department store.•
Another AI model for bold pop-up store designs was developed in order to serve the increasing need for creative and unique designs that are required for brand pop-up stores. The traditional way to design brand retail stores is through mood boards. Mood boards put together the individual design elements that would eventually form the entire interior design of the store. However, it is up to the interior designer, the brand, and the department store personnel to put those individual elements together. Worst case scenario, everyone could be imagining different stores while looking at the same mood board. On top of that, the traditional mood board design requires a lot of communication from all stakeholders, which only leads to an inefficient and more costly design process. Not to mention the same problem arises everyone an edit should be made after the initial design is agreed upon.
Planby developed an AI model capable of generating designs of brand retail store with minimal inputs. If the user provides an iconic color scheme of the brand along with some design keywords that are consistent with the brand, the AI model will generate alternate designs the brand’s retail store. This was made possible by training the AI model with the brand’s existing retail stores as well as the general tone & manner of the brands’s design itself. In addition, the user could provide a picture of the actual space that store will be located. With this additional information, the AI model will maintain the structure and aspect ratio of the space, while overlaying the suggested brand’s design elements on it. This would allow all related personnel to accurately and rapidly communicate with complete designs, leading to a more efficient and economic way of designing brand retail stores.
As an extension of the brand retail store design AI model, Planby developed a separate AI model more focused on designing bold pop-up stores that are built occasionally to temporally boost brand presence. The biggest difference when compared to brand retail store design is that pop-up stores have more creative freedom with the only limitation being the area and height of the space. As with the case of brand retail store design, we trained the AI models based on different brands’ previous pop-up stores and gave the AI model more freedom. The result was an AI model capable of generating audacious pop-up stores within an event space of the department store or shopping mall.
Results and Effects:
An AI model capable of brand retail store design within a physically defined space, cutting time and cost in the design communication process.
Extra pop-up store design AI model optimized for more creative and bold designs with a more lenient physical regulations.
Proof of spatial design AI model’s versatility and adaptability to specific needs within the interior design domain, and Planby’s capacity to train & fine-tune its AI models according to address a certain issue.
