Tech Lead

You'll set the technical direction for our engineering team and help every engineer on it grow, from architecture and code review to day-to-day mentoring.

What you'll do

  • Interview engineering candidates, review take-home assignments, and weigh in on hiring decisions
  • Give regular feedback and reviews based on each engineer's skills, growth, and role fit
  • Help each engineer set growth goals and a roadmap built on their strengths and gaps
  • Mentor through code reviews, design reviews, and pair programming
  • Make pragmatic technical calls that balance product requirements and business needs
  • Design and review architecture for new features and system improvements
  • Coordinate technical issues and timelines with other teams
  • Set and uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, and reviews
  • Monitor low-latency, high-throughput systems and remove bottlenecks
  • Own incidents end to end and put safeguards in place so they don't recur
  • Improve how we build: CI/CD, code review, and documentation

What we're looking for

Education

Bachelor's degree or higher

Experience

  • 5+ years building server applications, or equivalent problem-solving experience
  • 2+ years leading an engineering team, including managing 5 or more engineers
  • Database design and operations: data modeling, indexing, and query optimization
  • Backend and cloud security in production: authentication, authorization, access control, and secrets management
  • Shipped LLM features to production and kept them reliable, with control over prompt structure, latency, and cost

Skills

  • Fluency in at least one backend language: Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Performance profiling and optimization for low-latency, high-throughput systems
  • Designing and running services on AWS, GCP, or a similar cloud
  • Making system design trade-offs across cost, performance, and reliability
  • Explaining the reasoning behind technical decisions clearly
  • Hands-on leadership: you plan, build, and review code and designs yourself

Nice to have

  • Led a zero-downtime migration off a legacy system
  • Experience building a product or system from the ground up
  • Built and ran services at a fast-growing startup
  • Working proficiency in English
  • Early employee at a startup
  • Real curiosity about the people who use the product
